Job Title: Rail Projects Manager
Location: UK-based (with international travel as needed)
We are currently seeking an experienced Rail Projects Manager to oversee the full lifecycle of global railway inspection projects. This is a pivotal role within a busy and technically advanced environment, involving the coordination of complex field operations and data delivery teams. You'll be responsible for ensuring all projects are delivered efficiently, on schedule, and within budget, with full support and training provided for this niche area of work.
About the Role
As Rail Projects Manager, you will lead the execution of railway infrastructure surveys-from initial planning to field data capture, processing, and final reporting. This role requires effective collaboration across multiple internal departments and external partners, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, reliable information used to guide infrastructure maintenance and upgrade programs.
You will be expected to:
Oversee and manage all stages of rail inspection projects internationally.
Coordinate efforts between field survey teams, data processors, and delivery personnel.
Develop and manage project timelines and budgets, proactively addressing risks and issues.
Communicate clearly and professionally with all project stakeholders, including clients and subcontractors.
Interpret technical project scopes and specifications, ensuring outputs align with client expectations.
Maintain a strong focus on safety compliance and operational planning.
Provide leadership across project teams and ensure alignment across departments.
Maintain consistent oversight of resource planning and deliverable quality.
Ideal Candidate Profile
We're looking for someone with experience in project and team management, ideally within engineering, rail, or infrastructure environments, where you'll bring both strategic thinking and hands-on leadership to the role.
Key Skills & Experience:
Demonstrated experience in end-to-end project delivery.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to build and manage project plans.
Excellent leadership and team coordination abilities.
Skilled in managing risks, budgets, and stakeholder communication.
Strong problem-solving mindset, with a focus on proactive resolution.
Comfortable working with both technical and non-technical teams.
Familiarity with project management methodologies such as Agile or Waterfall.
Proficiency in tools such as MS Project, Jira, or equivalent.
